"description": "Duplex-bearing spindle assembly on a cast-iron mounting pedestal, 34 parts, built from scratch against Orchard doctrine (MOTION Section 1 bearing L10 ISO 281 + Section 5 shafts, THREADS \"How to cut a thread\" real add_thread + tip-chamfer build order, REFERENCE_DESIGNS Section 3 bearing-supported shaft adapted to a preloaded matched pair, ENGINEERING plan_build -> build -> critique_design loop). This design deliberately fills a gap REFERENCE_DESIGNS itself flags — pattern_bearing_pillow_block is noted \"TBD when macro lands\" — by hand-building a rigid pillow-block housing + integrated foot flange + duplex ACBB pair + end caps + seals + threaded preload station + driven GT2 pulley. MECHANISM: a rigid cast-iron PILLOW-BLOCK HOUSING (Ø80 body + 130x60x12 foot flange, integrated) bolts to a 240x140x15 CAST-IRON PEDESTAL BASE PLATE via 4x M8 SHCS into pedestal-top taps; the pedestal in turn takes 4x M10 foundation bolts at its corners. Inside the housing bore (Ø52 H7), a MATCHED PAIR OF 7205 ANGULAR-CONTACT BEARINGS sit BACK-TO-BACK (DB) — the two outer-ring back faces meet at the housing centre, and the two inner-ring back faces meet on the shaft; load lines diverge outward from each bearing, giving the wide effective support span that a spindle needs for tilt/moment stiffness. Preload is set by the matched-set geometry (factory-ground offset between mating faces) at the Light class (SKF, ~150 N per bearing). A stepped ground STEEL SHAFT (Ø22 keyed drive spigot / Ø30 shoulder / Ø30 seal running surface / Ø25 bearing seats k6 / Ø20 M20x1.5 thread) is trapped by a BRONZE PRELOAD LOCK NUT on the +X end pulling the inner-ring pair against the Ø30 shaft shoulder; a spring-steel TAB WASHER between the nut and the rear bearing engages both the shaft keyway and one of four nut slots to lock the preload against rotational back-off. Ø80 x 8 FRONT + REAR END CAPS clamp the outer rings axially and carry NBR LIP SEALS (SKF CR 25x32x5 style) that ride the Ø30 shaft surfaces. On the -X drive end, an anodised-aluminium GT2 20-TOOTH TIMING PULLEY (Ø40 belt-pitch, Ø45 flanges, 20 real modeled tooth notches) is keyed to the Ø22 spigot via a 4x4x20 SHAFT KEY, locked with an M4 setscrew, and retained by a Ø30 COLLAR w/ M3 setscrew on the shaft-end stub. THREADS (doctrine \"How to cut a thread\" — the only correct path): the M20x1.5 preload thread on the shaft's +X end is a real add_thread helix (60-deg V, major Ø20, pitch 1.5 fine), modeled over a representative 15mm — a fine pitch is used per common precision-spindle practice for lock-nut engagement (better back-off resistance under vibration than M20 coarse pitch 2.5). Tip lead-in chamfer added BEFORE add_thread per THREADS build-order rule (razor-thin edges after threading would refuse a chamfer). ENGAGEMENT: nut length 10mm vs 1xD=20mm minimum for a steel-in-steel joint per THREADS \"Engagement\" -- economised here since the LOCK function needs friction lock + tab retention, not full bolt-strength engagement; the shaft's threaded region continues beyond the nut, and the tab washer + slot mechanism carries the anti-rotation function. NUMBERS (live in-app + doctrine formulas): design load Fr=800 N radial, Fa=250 N axial @ 3000 rpm. 7205 angular-contact (α=15°, X=0.44, Y=1.24, SKF 7205 BE typical C=15.6 kN, C0=10.2 kN — NOTE: 7-series ACBB is not in Orchard's standardComponents catalog, so ratings are quoted from the SKF datasheet per the MOTION doctrine's own guidance \"verify the datasheet for life-critical joints\"). Equivalent load P = X·Fr + Y·Fa = 352 + 310 = 662 N. C/P = 23.56 (well over the >=5 daily-service target). L10 single bearing = (C/P)^3 = 1.31e+4 Mrev = 7.27e+4 hours @ 3000 rpm. MATCHED-PAIR C_pair = C x 1.62 (SKF DB/DF dynamic-capacity factor) = 25.3 kN -> L10_pair = 5.56e+4 Mrev = 3.09e+5 hours (contamination/lubrication-limited well before fatigue). Preload spec: LIGHT class per SKF matched-pair guidance, ~150 N per bearing (set by the factory-ground face offset in the matched pair, verified by torque-to-turn on assembly). PARAMETRIC (the 3 required swappables): brg_bore_mm (25; 7205 = 25mm; changing to 30 -> 7206 dims 30x62x16, drives shaft bearing seat + housing bore + cap ID), shaft_length_mm (118; changes shaft overall + preload-stack region between rear bearing and lock nut), preload_class (Light @ 150 N; Medium / Heavy classes shift preload spec + bearing selection to the corresponding C-class variant). All 3 registered as document variables via set_variable; bind_param declined on shaft blank op (revolve profile is a closed polygon; asm-08 LESSONS note). 3 doc vars registered: brg_bore_mm, shaft_length_mm, preload_n; analytic propagation documented in the description.. Bearing pair CO-AXIALITY (front vs rear bore centres): dY=0, dZ=0mm (\u003c 0.1mm tol). DISCLOSED: M20x1.5 preload thread cut with add_thread (60-deg V helix, major Ø20, pitch 1.5) over a representative 15mm at the +X end; the physical shaft continues the thread its full 18mm turned length.
