"description": "NEMA17 pinch-roller strip feed drive, 42 parts, built from scratch against Orchard doctrine (MOTION Section 1 bearing L10 + Section 5 shaft/locate-float discipline, SPRINGS extension-spring design w/ hook de-rate, ENGINEERING build order, THREADS add_thread recipe, REFERENCE_DESIGNS motor-bracket + bearing-shaft patterns). MECHANISM: a NEMA17 stepper on a gusseted L-bracket (full catalog mounting pattern: 4x M3 + Ø22 pilot) drives a Ø16 clamp coupling (Ø5 -> Ø8 bores, real clamp slits + 2 radial M3 setscrews) onto a stepped Ø8/Ø12/Ø10 steel shaft running in TWO 608ZZ pillow blocks at the catalog Ø21.9 press dimension — bearing A LOCATED against the Ø12 shoulder, bearing B FLOATING (MOTION Section 5). The Ø36 drive roller (24 REAL machined axial V-flutes for grip, radial M4 setscrew) feeds a 0.8mm strip through the nip. Above it, an orange pinch arm pivots on its own 608ZZ (Ø21.9 pocket + Ø19 lip) around an M6 shoulder screw threaded into the pivot tower, and presses a Ø28 idler roller (internal 608ZZ) onto the strip via a second M6 shoulder-screw axle. GRIP is set by a music-wire extension spring (Ø8 x Ø1.1, 7 active coils, modeled at working stretch) hooked between a Ø4 press pin in the arm tab and the grooved TENSION POST — a real M6-threaded adjuster with hex collar + jam nut: screwing it in/out changes spring stretch, i.e. the preload. Chassis plate carries mounting SLOTS (position adjust) and all tapped holes (mate_fastener_hole). NUMBERS (live-verified in-app): target feed force 14.4 N = mu 0.4 x grip 36 N at the nip. Arm moment balance about the pivot: N x 45mm = S x 83mm -> spring pull S = 19.5 N. Spring (calculate_spring, A228 music wire d=1.1, OD=8, C=6.27, Na=7): rate k = G*d^4/(8*D^3*Na) = 6.50 N/mm, Wahl tau = 319 MPa vs 785 MPa hook-derated allowable -> n = 2.46. Wire path ~195mm (kernel fast regime). Drive torque F*r = 14.4N x 18mm = 0.26 N*m vs NEMA17 holding ~0.45 N*m. Shaft 608ZZ (calculate_bearing_life, P=40N @ 60rpm): C/P=86, L10=6.4e5 Mrev (~190505626.7 h) — contamination-limited, not fatigue-limited. PARAMETRIC: roller_dia_mm, roller_len_mm, nema_frame, spring_preload_n, grip_n, feed_force_n, lever arms are document variables; roller_len_mm is live-bound to the roller blank + flute extrudes and was propagation-tested 40->52->40 (part bbox followed: dz 40.0000002 -> 52.0000002). Motor size swaps via the mate_nema_motor catalog pattern (NEMA17 default); roller diameter and spring preload re-derive per the stated formulas. DISCLOSED: mate_nema_motor macro did not accept a vertical (-X) face; the identical catalog-driven NEMA17 pattern (4x Ø3.4 on 31mm centers + Ø22.5 pilot, dims from lookup_component) was cut manually. Bearing seats use mate_bearing's catalog press dimension (Ø21.9 for 608ZZ) cut as blind pockets to keep the retaining lips — the macro itself only cuts through_all (LESSONS 2026-09-09). 608ZZ bearings modeled as outer ring (with ZZ shield fins) + inner ring; balls/cage concealed by shields, not modeled; bearings, NEMA17 stepper, coupling hardware, setscrews and the M6 nut are procurement items. Extension-spring coil modeled at its WORKING stretched length (10.9mm; free body length 8.8mm) so the static assembly shows the loaded state; hook wires modeled as a joined sibling part ringing the pin and the post groove (one physical wire in reality). M3/M4/M5 screw and nut thread helices economized (shanks at nominal Ø inside tap-drill holes -> the overlap zones ARE the thread engagements, asm-02/03/04 treatment); the two M6 shoulder screws and the M6 tension post carry REAL add_thread helical geometry. The thin feed strip is an illustrative workpiece showing the nip and feed path (Ø36 drive roller top at z60, strip 0.8, idler tangent at z60.8) — not a machine part. Nip modeled at nominal tangency (no elastic deflection). Screw-in-tap and press-fit overlap zones are the expected interferences. Skipped steps: nema-pattern-macro: mate_nema_motor unusable on the vertical leg face; manual catalog pattern follows",
