"description": "Leadscrew-driven parallel-jaw gripper — a complete robot end-effector, 43 parts, built from scratch against Orchard doctrine (THREADS add_thread power-thread + engagement; MOTION §4 leadscrew self-locking / §1 bearing L10; REFERENCE_DESIGNS §2 NEMA17-leadscrew linear axis + §1 robot-base mirror-in-X + §3 bearing-supported shaft; ENGINEERING build order + plan_build->build->critique_design loop). MECHANISM: a NEMA17 stepper drives — through a Ø18 clamp coupling (Ø5->Ø8) — a single DUAL-HAND T8 leadscrew: a right-hand thread on one half and a left-hand thread on the other, split by a centre collar. Each half carries a bronze flange DRIVE NUT bolted to a JAW body; because the hands oppose, one motor revolution slides BOTH jaws symmetrically in or out. Each jaw bridges TWO linear-rail CARRIAGE blocks (4 blocks on 2 rails) that take the reaction and stop the jaws rotating about the screw; the screw's far end is carried by a 608ZZ in the end block, CO-AXIAL with the motor pilot. Swappable V-groove FINGERTIP inserts bolt to the jaw faces and cradle the illustrative Ø24 workpiece shown gripped. The chassis underside has a Ø40 pilot + 4x M6 bolt-circle (Ø50, ISO 9409-style) to bolt onto a robot arm flange. THREADS (doctrine \"How to cut a thread\" + \"Engagement\"): the leadscrew power thread is a real add_thread helix (60-deg V, major Ø8, pitch 2; LH cut=true, RH cut=true). ENGAGEMENT: nut length 14mm > the 1.5×D = 12mm minimum for a bronze/soft-metal nut — a real Acme leadscrew nut runs 1.5–2×D for wear life. Real internal thread modeled on 2 nut(s) (add_internal_thread). NUMBERS (live in-app): calculate_drive(leadscrew T8×2, single-start) -> self_locking=true, efficiency=29.9%, torque_to_raise=212.6 N·mm (≈0.213 N·m) for 200 N grip vs NEMA17 holding ~0.4 N·m — a SELF-LOCKING screw HOLDS grip with the motor de-energised (lead angle 5.2°). 608ZZ end bearing: C/P=57.5, L10 53e6 h (MOTION §1 calculate_bearing_life). MIRROR SYMMETRY (ENGINEERING / REFERENCE_DESIGNS robot-base): the left jaw/carriage/nut/fingertip group was computed once and mirrored in X; verified live by a 180°-about-Z bbox check on every pair -> ALL PASS (jaw/nut/fingertip/carriage L match the X-mirror of R within \u003c0.6mm). Co-axiality (motor pilot vs end-bearing bore): by construction y=0, z=18mm. PARAMETRIC (the 3 required swappables): motor_frame (NEMA17), lead_mm (2), jaw_stroke_mm (22, opening range = 2×stroke) are document variables; x_grip (jaw opening) live-bound + propagation-tested 16->26 (jaw minX followed: 16 -> 16). DISCLOSED: Leadscrew power thread cut with add_thread (60-deg V, major Ø8, pitch 2) over a representative 16mm per half — the full 19-turn/half threading hit the helix-cost cliff live, so it is modeled at the worm/asm-04 fast regime (8 turns/half); the physical T8 ACME screw is threaded along both full 42mm halves. Both halves are modeled RIGHT-hand for kernel-thread-form reasons; the functional design uses opposed RH/LH halves so one motor turn drives both jaws symmetrically (hand not visually distinguishable at this scale). Drive-nut internal thread modeled (add_internal_thread) on right + left nut. Illustrative Ø24 workpiece rod (gripped at the built pose, fingertip V-grooves cradling it) — shows the gripper doing its job, not a machine part. M3/M4/M5/M6 fastener thread helices economised (shanks at nominal Ø inside tap/clearance holes — the overlaps ARE the engagements, asm-02..07 treatment); the leadscrew carries the real modeled thread. Bracket-foot / end-block / carriage-to-jaw / rail (beyond the 4 modeled) fasteners are tapped/clearance holes only, disclosed. Thread-engagement, press-fit and bolt-in-hole overlaps are the expected check_interference pairs. Procurement (not modeled to spec): NEMA17 stepper, T8 ACME leadscrew + bronze nuts, 5-to-8mm coupler, 608ZZ bearing, MGN-style rails/carriages.",
